Soooooooooooo as I write this it is the last day of February, 2 months of 2010 already gone...did you miss anything? I know I sure did, having a baby will do that! lol So let's recap this past week in...well, a little bit of everything.
We start of course with the Olympics, besides the figure skating they really have been pretty good this time around. I know there were some issues with warm weather and not enough snow to start but the powers that be there rebounded pretty quickly and have had a pretty good overall Olympics. It does help when the host country does well and Canada has been lighting it up this week with medal after medal. And I can't remember any other country just randomly singing their national anthem during events, it happened at least twice during the curling events and I've heard announcers saying that they've heard it all through these Olympics. That's just cool, I don't care if that it's not USA, I'll root for that anyday. That being said, the Gold medal game is today in men's hockey...GO USA!!!!! As cool as it would be to see Canada win the gold on their home ice in their game, it'd be even better to see USA win that Gold medal in their game, on their soil, and beat them twice in the same tournament. If that happens, expect mass suicides in Canada.
In the music world we had our listener appreciation show Friday night at Piere's w/ Pop Evil, Sirface, and Graveyard Tan. The lead singer for Graveyard Tan is literally the mayor of his hometown and he got the gig after he joined the band...pretty cool. Overall they weren't too bad. Sirface I thought really brought it, best show I've seen from them in a while. I really wish a record rep would do their job and give these guys a chance, they work their asses off and last time I checked, they're pretty damn good too. Pop Evil closed the night out and they killed it!! That was by far the best I've seen them play and their new stuff sounded pretty good too, definitely something to look forward to this summer!
And just to update...people still can't drive worht a crap in the listening area and I'm still not a fan of old people. Those 2 facts will most likely never change! LOL
Now, onto things coming up this week. Local Licks this Monday night at 11pm features bands from all over the place! The show kicks off with the band Kriadiaz, it's a side project band from Gravy of Mushroomhead...whose other side project band (featuring J.Mann) 216 is playing this Friday night at 4D's. Also on the bill are local legends Sirface and a brand new local band Koheleth who is also on Local Licks Monday night! Not sure of the whole story but I know most of the guys in the band, or possibly all of them, used to be in Shunned which was a local band I played relatively frequently on Local Licks. In the headline spot this week is XFactor1 who are out of Columbus, OH. They're playing at The Firehouse in Lima, OH Friday night. They played our 19th birthday bash specifially chosen by Hell Yeah that night and they were also the only unsigned band to play at Rock On The Range last year. So Monday night's Local Licks show is a helluva good heavy show, make sure you check it out.
The Mad Ants are home Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday this week!! That's a busy week for me and my voice but I think I'll manage. The team has really picked it up since acquiring former Gonzaga star Dan Dickau. The games are a blast to announce for and even more fun to watch, so do me a favor, bring the family and come out to a game. You will not be disappointed, I promise you that.
And we've got a Komets Bear's Lair game this Wednesday night with John the Mexican, don't miss that!! Partying with John is always fun but to do it at a Komets game is a completely different experience, so don't miss that either!
And finally, don't forget that Cold & Nonpoint are playing March 10th at Piere's!! Tickets are only $9.89 but we're giving them away all week on the air, so listen for a chance to score free tickets! I personally love the band Cold and couldn't be happier to see them, it's been several years. And Nonpoint is freakin' phenomenal live so this show is absolutely going to kick ass!!!
That's it for this week...have a good one!
